I dropped my Jalop XJ6 off at my British car mechanic yesterday. He had me park it next to a GORGEOUS recently restored one of these (XJ12-C). It was in for a manual swap.

The vinyl is only there because there was so much flex in the roof that the paint would be cracked before the car had even left the showroom.

Yup. But with modern paints that’s no longer an issue, and they look SOOOO much better with a painted roof
..and of course never forgetting
